Ugly Sneakers and Good Intentions
Jay Smooth is once again on point with the Addias Shackle Sneakers Controversey and the Media fasincation with reduring a complex argument to the simplified “Is the designer a racist?” conversation.

It’s so interesting that folks who discuss their lives get labeled as “social justice bloggers”
I write about various forms of isms and oppression because those things are an integral part of my life.
A good portion of my blog has been about those uncomfortable topics lately. And if choose to exclusively write about isms it’s my prerogative.
Isms are inescapable. They are omnipresent. They play a role in all of our lives, not just the marginalized. However the marginalized have no choice but to be aware. We do not have the privilege of remaining blind and benefiting from a system that favors some to the detriment of others. And those of us who are blind end up getting a very rude awakening. And if they don’t they die delusional.
This is a blog about social justice and social commentary. We do focus on that. However, the reason that we choose to is because when we do it on our personal blog, we’re looked at as Social Justice bloggers, when in reality, we’re talking about a part of our lives.
This is an issue when it comes to talking about SJ/SC topics, hence why we decided to make a blog exclusively about this. However, the personal side of us is still viewed as “social justice blogging”.
Sadly.
