1. Very Unpopular Opinion Regarding “People of Color”

Oh girl… we got a lot to correct here…

    hpttgrl:

I’ll probably be unfollowed by a shitload of people for this, but I don’t even care. I’m pissed. And before you start bombarding me with hate mail, please take care to read the whole post.

Okay, I’ll just go right out and say it. Being a “person of color” should not give you privileges. In fact, being any race should not give you privileges. There are asshats out there that think that just because their ancestors suffered, that it makes them entitled to something. Well, news flash. It doesn’t.

Do you think that white peoples’ ancestors never suffered? Do you think that throughout all of human history, they were never persecuted? Bullshit. Educate yourself.

But you don’t stop there. Not only do you use your relatives’ hardships to get special treatment, you blame a whole race of people who weren’t even there, and take it out on them daily. That is racism. You are being a racist. Daily I read things like, “White people need to shut up,” “Your ancestors tried their hardest to destroy every creature on the planet,” “We’ve lost so much culture because of you,” “You took everything away from us.”

I’m sorry, but I have never in my life took anything away from you. I hadn’t even been born during the time of the slaves, and I’m sorry, but neither had you.

I’m not saying that racism doesn’t exist. It does, and it’s disgusting, and it needs to be eradicated. If you’ve gone through some sort of trauma involving some barbaric racist, I’m not talking about you. You have gone through something personally, and I have no problem with you getting just compensation. I’m truly sorry and I hope you never have to go through anything like that again.

I’m talking to the people that go around thinking that because their skin is a different color than mine, they have a right to things I don’t. That is racism defined, people. Stop being hypocrites.

We’re going to keep this simple, because simplicity is best.

    Racism = Infrastructure.

Here’s how that works… see the history books and public education and how it benefits you? Because it’s all about censored American History = White people.

See the prison system and how Blacks outnumbered whites in it? It’s because of dated laws.

You have privilege… you have privilege to AVOID black issues, which are actually American issues.

Remember at one point Black people outnumbered White people in the past in North America? But now, Black people are the minority? Do you know why? Laws, trumped up charges and so on. Things we can’t get into because well, it’s a long story.

BTW… this song is not about you.

It’s funny how your whole argument is based on how YOU feel.

Look at how you written your statements:

I’m sorry, but I have never in my life took anything away from you. I hadn’t even been born during the time of the slaves, and I’m sorry, but neither had you.

    Here’s another gem:

Do you think that white peoples’ ancestors never suffered? Do you think that throughout all of human history, they were never persecuted? Bullshit. Educate yourself.

Let’s see… where do we begin? We know… Great Depression…

Yes, White people have suffered. America suffered. But guess what? The majority of White people had savings during that time. Black people, tho. Few Blacks had any financial savings. Blacks who had difficulty getting jobs in prosperous times had ever more problems as competition for a dwindling number of jobs intensified. Not to mention that the prison system was fulled with Black people (on trumped up charges) being hired for cheap labor.

Black people (as well as PoC) helped build America. Now, we’re not saying we deserve reparations (this is a topic for another day), but we deserve respect. It’s 2012 and we’re still not treated like equals.

And it’s because of heartless people like you who keep thinking “I bet you think this song is about you, DON’T YOU, DON’T YOU!!!!!?!?!?!”

You will respect us, young woman.

  2. I Have A Question

    keysandcookies:

Alright all my beautiful people of color - I have a question.

What, in your opinion, can white people do?

I get asked this question A LOT by my friends. I was raised by white parents in a predominantly white community who didn’t treat me differently and/or did treat me differently but I blocked it out. When I got to college, I realized how much the color of my skin meant to other people. How they would instantly judged me based on my eye color, skin color, and hair style. I started to uncover so much that was hidden from me. And I got angry. Fuck, I’m still angry, still pissed that this history - MY HISTORY - was hidden from me.

Yet I keep getting this question from my white friends. Simba, what can we do? How are we to move forward? How can we help?

And I have no words for them because I’m still too angry and honestly haven’t delved far enough into my culture to comfortably answer that question because I don’t know.

    So do you know?

    Thank you.

    First off, listen.

We start with “listen” because that’s what people fail to do. They want to hear their own opinion. You’ll be amazed at how many people fail this simple little test.

    Second, don’t jump conclusions.

Not every black person or every black blog (like this one) is trying to get you. We’re trying to help you understand. Remember, it’s not “all black people”, it’s “the people who happens to black”. Let’s give an example…

A white man is attacked by black man as a random occurrence. The white man is now scared of all black men because of this random attack. When trying to explain, he would say “you black men attack me”. That’s racist. If he had logically said to himself, “it was a random person who happened to be black” It would have ease his troubles.

This is an over simplified item, but we did this on purpose to make a point.

Third, take Joni Mitchell’s/Janet Jackson’s line and revert it… this song is not about you.

One thing people need to understand when discussing race is when you talk about it, you have to avoid the words “I do not represent my race”. Any sensible person knows this, but the minute you say this, you are closing your mind.

Finally (but not least), speak on it.

If you see injustice, speak on it. As much as we want to speak about injustice, we can’t do it on our own. While we can defend ourselves, there’s situations when we can’t simply do it. (We try to dodge stereotypes, and that’s double the pressure)

While this isn’t much of advice, it’s a starting point.

We want racist statements to be looked at as to say “hey, you got something stuck in your teeth” not “you have something stuck in your teeth, ya dirty ass bastard!” But know that once we get pass this level of conversation, the bigger items, such as injustice within the prison system, unemployment, and a lack of diversity within the education system, taxes, can be discussed.

  3. If you are a white woman and you want to call yourself a feminist, you must acknowledge that your whiteness affords you a privilege that shields you from a lot. You must also acknowledge that you are afforded privileges that some men in this country do not have. Racism and sexism are tightly intertwined. You cannot fight one while ignoring the other.

  4. Black people are ugly.

    kakenotcake:

They just look so dirty, like their skin is covered in black dirt. White people instantly look cleaner, just because of their color. could you imagine a black Paris Hilton? No. That would be gross.

You have an ugly soul with internal hatred for self.

Define irony: The person who posted this gem… black.
